Cambridge double for Breckon Farms

Breckon Farms took the breeding honours at Cambridge Raceway last Friday (June 5) with a winning double on the night.

Lucky Luka started the ball rolling when he came from third last and a conservative 30 metres from the leaders with a paralysing finishing burst to win at his second start. He rated 2:00.8 over 2200 metres on the rainsodden track.

A colt by Bettor’s Delight, Lucky Luka is the second foal and winner out of the Art Major mare Settle Petal (1:55.5), a half-sister to four sub 2:00 winners including the Group 3 WA Winter Cup winner Prince Of Pleasure.

Lucky Luka was sold for $55,000 at the NZB National Yearling Sale at Karaka in 2025.

The trotter Tactical Approach completed the double when after sitting third in the trail he mounted his challenge in the back straight and held on gamely to score by a half-length.

The five-year-old has now won three of his six lifetime starts.

A gelding by Tactical Landing, Tactical Approach is from then Armbro Invasion mare Classic Armbro, a daughter of the champion rcaemare Merinai. Classic Armbro has left seven winners from nine foals including the NZ Sires’ Stakes Championship winner and 2YO Trotting Filly of the Year Tailored Elegance.

Tactical Approach was a $50,000 yearling buy at Karaka in 2022.

Another winner bred by Breckon Farms this week is Never Say Never (Bettor’s Delight- Maid In Splendour), who scored in 1:57.4 at Bangor Raceway, Maine in USA.
