Meant To Be, the Breckon-bred son of Luby Lou (by Father Patrick), brought his stunning season to a close with a runaway victory in the $120,000 IRT Sires’ Stakes Trot at Alexandra Park on Saturday night.
It was the perfect end to a remarkable run that saw the star trotter notch eight consecutive victories, including four at Group 1 level. His dominance began in the spring and has continued, culminating in this latest triumph before he heads to the paddock for a well-earned spell.
The powerful trotter’s Group 1 victories include the Breckon Farms Northern Trotting Derby, Ace of Clubs Mobile Trot, IRT Sires’ Stakes Series 2YO Championship, and now the IRT Sires’ Stakes Trot.
“He has done a wonderful job but I am glad he can have a break now,” said trainer Barry Purdon. “I have always believed if you look after them when they are young you give them their best chance. And he does have tremendous ability.”
