Rubira in stunning return

Star four-year-old Rubira (Always B Miki-Delightful Kas), who was bred and is part-owned by Breckon Farms, made a triumphant return to racing at Alexandra Park on Friday (August 7).

Starting from the back row, the gelding enjoyed the box-seat trail behind the leader in the early part before being shuffled back three deep on the marker pegs.

Gaining racing room for the first time rounding the home turn, Rubira responded magnificently to Mark Purdon’s urgings to mow down his opposition in the dying stages.

He rated 1:56 for the 1700 metres.

It was his 12th success from 26 starts and improved his stake tally to $440,006.

Earlier in the day, the Breckon Farms bred raised and sold three-year-old Atua Magic (Bettor’s Delight - Double Twist) led throughout and was never seriously tested to win at Wagga (NSW).

The colt rated 1:56.6 over 2270 metres with the last three quarters in 28.9, 28.6 and 27.6. He is a very smart youngster.

The top priced colt at $170,000 at the NZB National Yearling Sale at Karaka in 2024, Atua Magic has won three of his six starts and $65,551 in stakemoney.

He is the fourth foal and fourth winner out of the Artplace mare Double Twist, the dam also of the Rangiora Classic winner Double Time ($154,915) and Twista ($115,885).
