Breckon Farms is proud to reflect on a strong showing at the 2026 NZB Standardbred Yearling Sales at Karaka, where once again the farm was the leading vendor.
Leading the way early in the day was Lot 16, a superb Sweet Lou x Rocknroll Roulette filly, who sold for $190,000 to Charles Joseph. A striking individual, she is the second foal from Rocknroll Roulette and attracted strong competition before the hammer fell.
Another big result came with our Sweet Lou x Enjoy Me colt, who realised $170,000 when secured by Barry Purdon & Scott Phelan Racing Stables. The first foal from our Group 1-winning mare Enjoy Me, we look forward to following his progress in such capable hands.
In total, Breckon Farms achieved eight $100,000-plus yearlings from a draft of 35. Farm Manager Nigel Fahy expressed his satisfaction with the results:
“The farm is very happy with the results from this year’s sales. Obviously we are trying to produce horses that buyers and the market demand, and to have eight $100k-plus lots is no mean feat from a draft of 35.
The planning and effort that goes into the whole exercise is over two years in the making, so that is satisfying. As usual, we will follow their journeys to the racetrack as if they were still our own.
I think buyers acknowledged the research and effort put into the breeding of the yearlings, as was evident in a couple of good sales in the form of the Rocknroll Roulette filly, which sold for $190k, and the Lacy Linda colt, who sold for $140k and was an outstanding type. Both are bred on a North American cross that is working up there — being by Sweet Lou out of A RocknRoll Dance mares.”
Another proud moment for the Breckon team was being judged Best Presented Yearling, awarded to a colt by King Of Swing - a horse very much part of the fabric of the farm. King Of Swing was born and raised at Breckon, out of Gladamare, whose family traces back to Ken’s very first racehorse purchase, Megaera.
This recognition is a testament to the dedication of the entire team, particularly Philly and the yearling crew, who invested countless hours into developing, preparing and presenting the draft in outstanding order.
