The Breckon Bred army have marched into town!

Three members of the Breckon Bred army have descending on Victoria this week for an assault on their upcoming Group1 affairs.

The action kicks off tonight with King of Swing taking his place in the Group1 Pryde’s Easifeed Victorian Cup.

Drawn horribly, the star will start from outside the back row, prompting the commentators to question whether he can salute tonight and add to his illustrious CV that already includes two Miracle Miles, a Hunter Cup and a Blacks A Fake.

His most high-profile defeats have come from back row draws, but these races have arguably been his best.

The tenacity he showed in the Hunter Cup to going down to Lochinvar Art was admirable and his run in the Sunshine Sprint was off the charts, being beaten by the narrowest of margins. He has electric gate speed which has been used to his advantage whenever possible, meaning some have labelled him a front runner only.

The Cobbity Equine Camp dispute this and have faith in their star. Unfortunately, due to Covid restrictions they won’t be on track or in the sulky tonight with David Moran taking the reins from regular driver Luke McCarthy. Reports in the media during the week suggest David won’t be afraid to put the King in the race and he holds his toughness and class in high esteem.

His biggest competition comes from fellow kiwi bred Amazing Dream who starts on the gate from barrier 5. The inform mare is looking for back to back Group 1's (nothing new for her) and will have the King's 2020 Victorian Cup driver Anthony Butt in the cart. Prepared by Nathan Purdon, she's not the only smart filly Nathan and partner Mikayla have in their barn at the moment.

Tough and classy are two words that can also be used to describe the Kings younger sister Bettor Twist who is also set to shake things up in Victoria.

The six-time Group 1 winning daughter of Twist and Twirl landed in Melbourne on Wednesday.

Based at Nathan's lara property, the All Stars trained pacer arrives with a formidable reputation. Her stellar season will no doubt see her crowned NZ 3YO Filly of the Year and even had some muttering she should be included in the Horse of The Year nominations.

The rangy filly known as the “big bird” travelled well and will trial before taking her place in the first of the Heats on November 5th.

Joining her on the plane was fellow Breckon Farms Syndicate horse and last start Group 1 winner A Bettor You. The 2YO claimed victory in the Yarndley Farms Harness Jewels Diamond back at Cambridge in June.

Spelled following her win, she had a tidy trial at Rangiora before boarding the plane. The Bettor’s Delight daughter of Group 1 winner Onlyforyou follows in her mother’s footsteps. The Dalgety trained filly competed in the 2012 2YO edition of the series.

The Art Major filly was a heat winner but ran in to the star Australian filly of that year Glenferrie Shuffle, finishing second to her in the final.

She’s just one of the many Breckon breds that have a great record in the Breeders Crown series - Twist and Twirl, High Gait, Stress Factor and tonight’s Victorian Cup favourite King of Swing have all flown the Breckon Farms flag high with podium finishes.

Four years on from that win, his first Group 1, can King of Swing put in another Group 1 winning performance on Victorian soil? We say yes, we might be a bit biased, but one thing we do know is the king won’t go down without a fight. What a race it will be. We wish the McCarthys, Halls and all his connections the best of luck.

Also featuring at Bendigo this evening is Victorian trained Kyvalley Hotspur (Love Ya Doosie) who takes part in R4 the Grp2 The VHRC CADUCEUS HOLMFIELD for Lilley Racing.
